About the school
Imagine teaching mathematics in a school where the IB is part of everyday life. Our client is a prestigious, innovative, co-educational IB World School in Lima. It is British in outlook, with an international philosophy, and educates aged 2 to 18.
The school delivers all three IB programmes: the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme. It is bilingual, and English is used more and more as students move up the school. Diploma students choose from a broad range of courses, with most of their studies in English. Graduates go on to leading universities in Peru and around the world.
Teachers are supported by pedagogical coaches and a psycho-pedagogy department that provides emotional and cognitive support to students. The school promotes the values of respect, integrity, commitment and empathy, alongside the IB Learner Profile and education for sustainable development. It also has outstanding campus facilities and a unique study centre in the Amazon Rainforest. Its expatriate staff come mostly from the UK, USA, Canada and Australasia, so you will join a welcoming international community.
About Lima
Lima is one of Latin America’s most dynamic capitals: a vibrant city of around 10 million people, set on cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. Widely regarded as the gastronomic capital of South America, it is home to world-class restaurants, lively markets and a thriving arts scene, while its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Many international staff live in leafy, coastal neighbourhoods such as Miraflores, San Isidro and Barranco, where cafés, galleries, parks and clifftop cycling paths are on the doorstep. The climate is mild year-round, and surfing, running and ocean sunsets are part of everyday life.
Lima is also the perfect base for exploring Peru, with Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, the Amazon rainforest, the Nazca Lines and the northern beaches all within easy reach. Spanish is the main language, and the city has a large, welcoming international community and a reasonable cost of living, so your salary goes a long way.
