About Lima
Lima is one of Latin America’s most dynamic capitals: a vibrant city of around 10 million people, set on cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. Widely regarded as the gastronomic capital of South America, it is home to world-class restaurants, lively markets and a thriving arts scene, while its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Many international staff live in leafy, coastal neighbourhoods such as Miraflores, San Isidro and Barranco, where cafés, galleries, parks and clifftop cycling paths are on the doorstep. The climate is mild year-round, and surfing, running and ocean sunsets are part of everyday life.
Lima is also the perfect base for exploring Peru, with Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, the Amazon rainforest, the Nazca Lines and the northern beaches all within easy reach. Spanish is the main language, and the city has a large, welcoming international community and a reasonable cost of living, so your salary goes a long way.
