Details on the company background
Our client is a fast-growing education organisation that helps ambitious high school students aiming for top universities in the US and worldwide produce original, publishable-quality research. Each student is paired one-on-one with a PhD mentor from a leading global university.
Instead of a fixed classroom curriculum, students follow a personalised research pathway, choosing a subject they care about and developing it into a real piece of scholarly work under expert guidance. The organisation is building the go-to platform for pre-college research mentorship, and China is one of its most important markets.
As a founding member on the ground, you will build and own the China presence from day one. You will:
- Build and manage partnerships with international and bilingual schools, independent educational counsellors and agencies, turning relationships into consistent enrollment pipelines.
- Travel across China to meet school administrators, counsellors and other stakeholders.
- Launch and grow customer acquisition channels suited to the China market, including Xiaohongshu (RED), WeChat, Douyin and paid digital, with the option of bringing in an agency.
- Represent the brand credibly to schools and families and feed market insight back into the wider China strategy.
- Work with the in-house tech team to shape features specific to Chinese students.
- Track and report on pipeline, channel performance and enrollment metrics to leadership.
Snapshot of information about the location
China is home to one of the world’s largest and most competitive premium education markets. Families in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou invest heavily in their children’s international education. Demand is strong for international and bilingual schools, specialist counselling, and enrichment that helps students stand out in top-university applications.
Digital platforms such as WeChat, Xiaohongshu and Douyin play a central role in how parents research and choose education services, which makes this a dynamic market for someone who understands both relationship-driven and digital growth. Extensive travel between cities is part of the role, and China’s high-speed rail and domestic flight networks make that straightforward.
Required qualifications
- A strong background in premium/high-end education in China, either at one of the large education companies or as an independent/private educational counsellor with an established client base
- Fluent English and Mandarin Chinese, written and spoken
- An existing network of relationships with schools, educational counsellors or other stakeholders in China’s education space (strongly preferred)
- Prior experience at a research-oriented company, study-abroad consultancy or similar business (highly preferred)
Essential skills
- Excellent relationship-building, communication and stakeholder management skills
- An entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with the ambiguity of an early, founding-stage role
- Willingness to travel extensively across China to build in-person relationships
- Experience building or managing digital acquisition channels (Xiaohongshu/RED, WeChat, Douyin, paid digital) is a strong plus
- Ability to track, analyse and report on pipeline and enrollment metrics
