Sam Attwater

Early Years

Sam is highly experienced in early childhood development and education, having dedicated her career to nurturing young minds and shaping the future of early years education. She began her career in a Special Care Baby Unit, which revealed the profound impact of early intervention and inspired her transition to early years education. Sam is particularly passionate about sharing knowledge and best practices, having regularly coached and mentored early years professionals, and facilitated the UK government’s National Professional Qualifications for Early Years Leaders.

Key Accomplishments:

  • Established UK East Sussex’s first fully integrated ‘Foundation Village’
  • Led multiple nurseries to achieve ‘outstanding’ Ofsted ratings
  • Provided expert consultation to the UK Department for Education
  • Delivered keynote speeches at national and international education conferences
  • Led an Early Excellence Hub, positively impacting over 1,000 children aged 0-5 years

This extends beyond education where Sam channels her commitment to conservation as a qualified Marine Mammal Surveyor Team Leader with the charity ORCA. This volunteer work in whale and dolphin conservation reflects her belief in protecting our natural world for future generations.

Leadership Style:

Sam adopts a coaching leadership style bringing out the best in each person, whilst simultaneously directing everyone toward a common goal.  There are times when Sam chooses a more direct style of  leadership taking an active role in setting clear objectives in order to ensure all goals are achieved.

Sam brings extensive early years’ experience, knowledge and understanding coupled with a humility which enables her to bring out the best in teachers and leaders, whilst also having the confidence and ability to guide initiatives at a national, and government level. Her passion for the early years is obvious and her work as an Associate is focused on enhancing the life chances of children through quality provision in the critical early years.

As Trust Director of Early Years, Sam transformed Aurora Schools’ EYFS settings, achieving three Ofsted Outstanding ratings within two years and earning recognition as a national DfE Early Years Champion. These well-deserved accolades led to Sam being asked to provide CPD and to make presentations to numerous audiences at regional and national levels.
